Old Jews Telling Jokes

This is completely out of my normal topic range here, but I couldn’t resist. This is a blog called Old Jews Telling Jokes. It’s videos. Of old Jews. And they tell jokes. It’s amazing.

I’d like this better if the jokes were cleaner, and if they were more Jewish, but especially if all the old Jews weren’t younger than me!

As a teen-ager, I was entranced by two compilations of Jewish jokes put together by a Chicago rabbi, S. Felix Mendelsohn. When I got to college, my room-mate turned out to have grown up in Rabbi Mendelsohn’s congregation — and every time I tried to tell a joke, he would interrupt and say, Page 67, and you’re telling it wrong.

When I got out of college, the family dentist, who had gone to high school with my mother and college with my father, told me I was old enough to know something about my mother. Larry, he said, there are people in this world who tell Yiddish jokes better than your mother does, and there are people in this world who tell dirty jokes better than your mother does — but there is no one the world who tells dirty Yiddish jokes better than your mother does.

Unfortunately, her talent did not make it to the next generation!
